Indo-Pacific Advisory (IPA) extends warm New Year’s greetings and looks forward to the many opportunities 2025 promises. From the outset, IPA has upheld a clear mission: to leverage deep expertise and help leaders and institutions navigate the constantly evolving geopolitical landscape of the Indo-Pacific region. By delivering precise, actionable insights, IPA aims to guide decision-makers in identifying both the opportunities and risks that define this dynamic environment.
A key element of IPA’s vision is the establishment of an Advisory Board composed of individuals who have not only excelled in their respective fields, but who have actively shaped them. These seasoned professionals combine strategic insight with leadership prowess, offering invaluable direction to those at the helm of significant ventures and organizations. Over the coming weeks, IPA will be announcing several new Board Advisors.
Today, IPA is delighted to announce the appointment of James Kondo as the organization’s very first Board Advisor. James has played a pivotal role in helping shape the concept behind IPA, particularly in its potential to guide leaders along emerging commercial corridors in the Indo-Pacific region—encompassing stronger India-Japan partnerships and beyond. His early support and encouragement were instrumental in bringing IPA to life.
James Kondo serves as the Chairman of the International House of Japan (I-House), a leading foundation and think tank fostering international cooperation for a free, open, and sustainable world. His expertise spans social impact, technology, and policy. Among his current roles are:
Senior Advisor at OpenAI
Board of Trustees, Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation
Executive Committee Member of the Board of Asia Society
Visiting Professor at Keio Medical School
Previously, James held positions as Vice President of Growth Strategy at Twitter Inc. and Chairman of Twitter Japan, as well as Special Advisor at the Cabinet Office of the Japanese Government. His leadership and impact have been recognized through honors including:
World Economic Forum Young Global Leader
Yale World Fellows
Asia Society Asia 21 Fellow
Richard von Weizsacker Fellow at the Robert Bosch Academy
A graduate of Keio University and Harvard Business School, with additional studies at Brown University, James resides in Tokyo. Beyond his professional contributions, he is known for his enthusiasm for cooking, jazz, and zen meditation.
IPA expresses profound gratitude for James Kondo’s trust and commitment in joining as the first Board Advisor and looks forward to benefiting from his expertise, guidance, and enduring spirit of collaboration.
